Coming at you today with a simple solution to a complex problem: Attracting and converting your dream clients.
Estimated reading time: 3 minutes
Situation:
Everyone keeps telling you to build an email list. They say it's the best way to grow and nurture your audience, which makes it easier to sell your products and services.
I can attest this since I’ve literally made money from my newsletter while I was out playing with my kids. But, getting started can be a bit tricky.
Complication:
The people telling you this forgot one very important part; how to actually grow your email list, especially if you’re starting from scratch or don’t have the ability to magically become an email marketing expert overnight.
Question:
How can you grow your email list when you don’t have a large social media following or the budget to pay for paid ads?
Answer:
Step 1: Create a Lead Magnet
A lead magnet is a free item or service that a business gives away to get contact information from potential customers. The goal of a lead magnet is to get visitors to engage with the brand and convert them into paying customers.
Examples include:
Need additional examples? Here are 59 more.
Not sure what to share in your lead magnet? Well, I always say that, “Questions create content."
So start by thinking about your audience’s most pressing questions, then determine how you can answer them with your lead magnet.
For example, let's say I provide financial advice to entrepreneurs. Around tax season they may have questions about what business expenses they’re allowed to claim as a deduction.
Knowing this, I could make a PDF sharing some of the most common overlooked deductions they may be eligible for.
So, it could be titled “The Top Five Tax Deductions Many Entrepreneurs Overlook”
Step 2: Promote Your Lead Magnet
Once you have your lead magnet created, it’s time to move on to the next step, social media promotion.
I suggest teasing out one key takeaway from your lead magnet, then asking people to download the full version from your website.
Sticking with the same financial service provider, here’s an example of a LinkedIn post that would encourage people to download the lead magnet we just came up with.
Ok, you’re almost done here.
Step 3: Welcome your new subscribers
The very last part is the email welcome series.
A welcome email is like saying "hi" to new friends who want to learn about your brand.
A great series makes them feel good about joining, starts your relationship strong, gets things moving, and shows you're excited to have them.
It can also help you sell products and services, but be sure to provide value to your audience at the same time.
Be patient, not pushy.
Your turn.
Block off a few hours to develop your:
I know this may sound challenging, but it's one of the most cost effective ways to consistently attract, engage and partner with your dream clients.
